Aakash Chopra says Virat Kohli can only play for…

Expert analyst Aakash Chopra who comes from the same city as Virat Kohli, claimed that the impact Kohli has had in Indian cricket is unlike any other player that has ever played the game in the country, not even Sachin or MS Dhoni. Chopra called his statesman the true Modern master as well as the Chase master.

Virat Kohli is currently gearing up for another successful calendar year which began with the home T20I series against Afghanistan that India clinched by 3-0. In that series, Kohli returned to the shortest format for the first time since the ICC T20 World Cup semi-final against England in November 2022.

He had to miss the 1st T20 in Mohali due to personal reasons but he came back for the 2nd T20I in Holkar, scoring 29 off 16 before falling prey to pacer Naveen Ul Haq. Kohli batted at a strike rate of over 180 and had set the tone perfectly for the series concluder in his IPL home ground, the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru.

However, Virat Kohli had a night to forget as he got out for a golden duck while the hosts completed 2024’s first whitewash after 2 thrilling superovers. But as we all know, Kohli doesn’t care about his score and he was happy to see the Men in Blue get over the victory line on the back of Rohit Sharma’s 121 off 69.

His unselfishness makes him one of the best batters in the world and many believe that his impact in Indian cricket is second to none. If not everyone, then at least Aakash Chopra does. While speaking about Virat Kohli in his latest YouTube video, Chopra stated that Kohli has checked all the parameters to become a modern-day great and believes that he has inspired an entire generation to get fit.

“If you have to judge a player’s greatness, there are 3 or 4 parameters. One in longevity. He is 35 and it seems like he can play for 4 more years. Then you see his impact on the game. He wins matches and makes an entire generation fit. He has had a massive impact.” – Chopra claimed.

The former opening batter turned pundit also claimed that Kohli’s ability and mental strength during 2nd inning chases is what well and truly defines him as one of the best to ever do it and reminded everyone about the match-winning knock he played against Sri Lanka in 2012 at Hobart.

“The one thing that defines him is the chase game. He is the modern master and the chase master. I feel the name ‘chase master’ was coined in the match against Sri Lanka in Hobart where India needed a bonus point to qualify. How well he hit Lasith Malinga and all the other bowlers.” – Chopra added.

“His Adaptability Across Formats Is Another Aspect” Aakash Chopra Praises Virat Kohli’s Desire To Be The Best In All 3 Formats

Aakash Chopra concluded by stating that Virat Kohli’s desire to be the best and willingness to adapt across all formats is another aspect of why he has had such a massive impact, especially for the upcoming generation.

“Another important aspect is how you adapt across three formats – he does that. Then, of course, the sheer records, the numbers. The numbers don’t lie about him – 50 ODI centuries, four double centuries in a year in Tests and nearly 1000 runs in an IPL season.” – Aakash Chopra concluded.
