Arshdeep Singh opens up about the bhangra duet with Virat Kohli after T20 World Cup win

India’s thrilling seven-run victory over South Africa in the 2024 T20 World Cup final in Barbados was a momentous occasion for the cricket-loving nation. According to Arshdeep Singh in an interview given to The Indian Express, the impromptu Bhangra dance was a spontaneous expression of the team’s sheer joy and relief at having won the coveted trophy. “The happiness was just overflowing, and we couldn’t contain our excitement,” the 24-year-old fast bowler revealed.

Coming from the same Punjabi culture the Delhi lad and the young speedster, dancing wasn’t much of a surprise to which Arshdeep added, “The bond with Virat bhai has always been great. Same Punjabi culture, he also loves to shake his leg. The DJ was playing a perfect song (I can’t remember it now), the timing was perfect and we started doing bhangra.”

Virat Kohli’s crucial knock and announcement

Kohli, who played a crucial 76-run knock to help India post a competitive 176/7 in the final, had earlier announced his retirement from T20 internationals, making the victory all the more special for the former Indian captain. “This was my last T20 game playing for India. We wanted to lift that cup,” Kohli said in the post-match presentation.
