AUS vs PAK: Mickey Arthur’s ‘BCCI Event’ Remark India-Pakistan Clash To Be Reviewed By ICC

Pakistan’s Director of Cricket Mickey Arthur has come under scrutiny after his comments following the loss to India in the ICC World Cup 2023. International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman Greg Barclay said that they will be reviewing his ‘India vs Pakistan felt like BCCI event’ statement.

India dominated Pakistan by all ends in Ahmedabad. The Rohit Sharma-led side thumped the opposition by 7 wickets. The Narendra Modi Stadium was lush blue as there were all India supporters and hardly anyone was there for Pakistan.

Following the loss, Pakistan Director of Cricket Mickey Arthur made a shocking statement that raised quite a few eyebrows. He said that it looked like a BCCI event as he didn’t hear any slogs for Pakistan. Speaking at the post-match press conference, he explained:

“It didn’t seem like an ICC event tonight – let’s be brutally honest. It seemed like a bilateral series or a BCCI event. I didn’t hear Dil Dil Pakistan coming through the mics too often. That does play a role, but I won’t use it as an excuse.”

ICC Chairman Greg Barclay was asked about Mickey Arthur’s comment and in reply to this he stated that there will be criticism from every end they will be working on things to do better. Speaking at the event in Mumbai, he explained (as quoted by ESPNCricinfo):

“Every event that we have, there’s always criticisms from various quarters. Things that perhaps we’ll take away and try to work on, try to do better… so this event’s only [at] the start.”

AUS vs PAK: World Cup will turn out to be outstanding – Greg Barclay on Mickey Arthur’s comment

Greg Barclay further talked about the same and added that this World Cup will turn out to be outstanding. He highlighted that they will review Mickey Arthur’s statement and look at what they could change. He elaborated

“Let’s see how the whole thing plays out and we’ll go away and we’ll review what could change, what we can do better, how we can improve World Cups and the general offering around cricket. We will just take it as it plays out, get to the end of the event. I’m satisfied that it will still be an outstanding World Cup.”

Pakistan will be next seen in action when they take on Australia on Friday (20th October) in Bengaluru.
