AUS vs PAK: Steve Smith Picks One Player From Australia Who He Would Like To Bring Back In ICC World Cup 2023

Australia cricketers selected the players they’d want to bring back from the past at the peak of their powers for the ICC World Cup 2023. Leg spinner Adam Zampa chose former all-rounder Shane Watson for his skills and game-changing abilities with both bat and ball.

The Pat Cummins-led team started the World Cup on a poor note, registering two back-to-back defeats. The Men in Yellow suffered an eight-wicket loss against India in Chennai. They failed to chase down a target of 312 runs against South Africa in their most recent game.

Australian Cricketers Picks Retired Player They Love To Have For World Cup

Australian cricketers were asked by the ICC to pick retired Australian players they’d bring back at the peak of their powers for the World Cup 2023 in India. Adam Zampa, Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Starc, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, and Mitchell Marsh shared their choices.

Marcus Stoinis expressed a strong desire to have Shane Warne, emphasizing the significance of his presence. Mitchell Starc preferred Ricky Ponting, highlighting his batting and leadership qualities. Steve Smith opted for Shane Warne, considering his spin prowess.

Glenn Maxwell picked Andrew Symonds for his all-round abilities, fielding skills, and powerful hitting. Mitchell Marsh chose Adam Gilchrist, even if it meant giving up his own spot, acknowledging the left-handed batter’s dynamic presence and winning attitude.

“Shane Watson. Gun All Rounder. Can take the game away from you. I used to love watching him bat, particularly,” said Zampa.

“I’d love to have Warnie (Shane Warne) here, for sure. I think that I don’t need to answer why,” said Stoinis.

“It’s hard to go past Ricky Ponting. His firepower at number three, his leadership as captain. The aura of Ricky Ponting and who he was as a player and a person, I think you bring back,” Starc stated.

“One player that I love to bring back from Australia would be Shane Warne. Obviously, wickets in India are known to spin a bit at stages, so he is arguably the best spinner to ever play the game. So be great to be able to bring him back,” Smith opined.

“Andrew Symonds. He’d fit realy well into our change room at the moment, all rounder, medium pace, off spin gun fielder and hits the ball a mile. I think he would be perfect for our squad at the moment,” Maxwell explained.

“I’d say Adam Gilchrist. Opening batting, he would probably take my spot actually, so not ideal. But he was so dynamic and loved winning, so definitely gilly,” Marsh added.
