AUS vs WI: “Seen Jimmy Anderson Do…” – Josh Hazlewood Reveals Test Cricket Remains Australia Bowling Quartet’s Priority

Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood is one of the least talked about bowlers in modern-day cricket. Hazlewood who has such a brilliant action and releases the ball from a high point due to his height has been a matter of concern for the batsmen in the past few years. However, his performance is basically overshadowed by the presence of big names such as Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc in the Australian bowling attack.

England pacer James Anderson has been an absolute legend of modern-day cricket. Beginning his career back in 2003, Anderson is one of the top three wicket-takers in Test cricket and is just ten wickets shy from reaching the 700 mark. Anderson has played a total of 183 Test matches and has picked up 690 wickets at an average of 26.42. He has also picked up 32 five-wicket hauls in his whole Test career.

James Anderson has played Test cricket more than any other format in his international career, Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood gave his example and explained the reason why the Australian bowling lineup has prioritized Test cricket more than any other format.

The Australian bowling lineup which includes Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, and Nathan Lyon, displayed yet another tremendous performance in the Test series against Pakistan and whitewashed them 3-0.

While speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, citing the example of James Anderson, Josh Hazlewood believed that each bowler of the Australian attack can play Test cricket for at least 2 or more years. Hazlewood also hailed Australian captain Pat Cummins and stated that if they reach the 300 wicket mark then it will be unreal.

Josh Hazlewood cites James Anderson as an example for prioritising Test cricket

Josh Hazlewood said, “We’ve seen Jimmy Anderson do that sort of stuff. Starcy bowls a little bit differently to Patty and me. He’s all guns blazing most of the time, but if we could all get 300 [wickets], that’d be unreal. It’d be great if we could play forever, but if we could play a couple more years … what we know about training and workload management now we might be able to hand on longer. I just really enjoy the format and I know the other boys do as well. You try to hang onto Test cricket as long as possible.”

Josh Hazlewood is just one wicket away from entering the 250-wicket club and would want to do the same in the upcoming Test series against West Indies. However, injuries are an unbreakable part of any pacer and such has been the case with Josh Hazlewood. Hazlewood has missed many important series due to his injuries. Heaping praise on Pat Cummins, he has believed that the Australian captain has taken more 3 to 5 wicket hauls in the last few years which is the major reason he has been able to take more wickets than Hazlewood.

Josh Hazlewood said, “The last 50 [wickets] have probably taken a while. It feels like I got 200 a while ago and then obviously there’s been a few injuries the last few years. It will be pretty special, the last one of the four guys to do it. ‘Cummo’ has been coming up in the rearview mirror pretty quickly the last few years and has gone straight past me with three five-fors [five-wicket hauls] on the bounce.”

The two-match Test series between Australia and West Indies will start from January 17.
