The Big Bash League (BBL) 2023-24 saw two games being played on Wednesday (3rd January). The first game of the tournament took place between Sydney Sixers and Brisbane Heat whereas Perth Scorchers vs Adelaide Strikers was on the fray in the evening fixture.
In the first BBL 2023-24 game on Wednesday, Brisbane Heat emerged victorious by 3 runs and they bagged the important two points. Opting to field first, they bundled out Sydney Sixers for just 141 runs. Matthew Kuhnemann and Paul Walter bagged two wickets whereas Spencer Johnson and XC Bartlett bagged one scalp each.
For Sydney Sixers, Josh Phillippe (41) was the top run-scorer whereas other batters couldn’t get going. Skipper Moises Henriques (22) and Jack Edwards (22) got the start but couldn’t convert and were out in the crucial junctures of the game.
In the chase, Brisbane Heat opener Josh Brown (43) played a great hand for the team at the top. Nathan McSweeney (22) and Paul Walter (23*) played vital hands as they comfortably caused the target, which was revised to 104 due to DLS.
In the second game of BBL 2023-24 on Wednesday, Perth Scorchers registered a 42-run win over Adelaide Strikers. Asked to bat first, they posted a mammoth total of 211 runs on the board. Laurie Evans (85*) played a staggering innings whereas Sam Whiteman (34), Aaron Hardie (34) and Josh Inglis (26) chipped in as well.
Adelaide Strikers had a decent start as Matthew Short (74) played a great hand at the top. Chris Lynn (27) played a vital hand too whereas Thomas Kelly (29) also contributed. But it wasn’t enough as Perth Scorchers kept chipping in with regular intervals and bundled out the opposition for just 169 runs.
Lance Morris was the pick of the bowlers as he bagged 5 wickets. Andrew Tye and Jhye Richardson also contributed with 2 wickets each as they bundled out the opposition for a low total to win the game by 42 runs.

After that BBL 2023-24 matches 24 and 25, Brisbane Heat and Perth Scorchers are in the top two spots after their wins. Sydney Sixers retained the third sport even after the loss whereas Melbourne Stars are in 4th position in the table. Adelaide Strikers after the loss were dropped to the last spot.
