Former Indian selector Chetan Sharma has predicted his fourth semi-finalist of the ICC World Cup 2023. He backed New Zealand to make it because he believes that they would easily beat Sri Lanka, considering the brand of cricket they have played. He also predicted that India vs Australia would be the final.
We are moving into the business end of the ICC World Cup 2023 and still are unsure of who will be the fourth semifinalists. India, South Africa, and Australia have qualified and it’s a tough fight for the last spot. Three teams are in contention and the tournament is peaking at the right time.
New Zealand, Pakistan, and Afghanistan are the three teams that are fighting for the last spot. And whosoever among them will qualify will take on India in the semi-final. All the above-mentioned teams have a fair chance to make it and it’ll be interesting to see who qualifies.
According to Chetan Sharma, New Zealand have a great chance to qualify because they played quality cricket in the tournament. He talked about Pakistan’s chances as well and highlighted that it’ll be tough for them. Speaking to India TV, he explained:
“According to me, New Zealand are the favourites to be the fourth semifinalists. They only have to beat Sri Lanka which they might do easily with the kind of cricket they have played in this World Cup so far. If they win, net run-rate will come into the equation for Pakistan and it won’t be easy for them to win big against England.”
IND vs NED: Qualification Scenario for New Zealand, Pakistan and Afghanistan
For New Zealand to qualify, they need to beat Sri Lanka in their last league game. If they manage that they will be through because they have superior NRR. If they lose they still will have a chance as then they would be dependent on England to beat Pakistan and South Africa to beat Afghanistan.
For Pakistan, things would get easy if New Zealand lost against Sri Lanka. They then need to beat England and they will be through. If the Kiwis win they need to beat defending champions by a big margin to surpass New Zealand’s big NRR. The Washout in NZ vs SL will favor them.
For Afghanistan, things are pretty simple. They need to win their last game against South Africa and then hope Pakistan and New Zealand face defeats in their last games.
