England registered a commendable victory over Bangladesh by 137 runs in Match 7 of the ODI World Cup 2023 at the HPCA stadium, Dharamshala on Tuesday (October 10). In an all-round effort, the Jos Buttler-led side successfully bounced back from their nine-wicket defeat against New Zealand in the CWC 2023 opener on October 5, reaffirming their determination to defend the World Cup title.
England’s Innings
England posted a formidable total of 364/9 in their allotted 50 overs. The star of their innings was Dawid Malan, who played a sensational knock of 140 runs off just 107 deliveries, including 16 fours and five sixes.
Joe Root also contributed significantly with 82 runs off 68 balls, and Jonny Bairstow chipped in with a solid 52 runs. An array of boundaries around the ground marked England’s batting display as they built a challenging target for Bangladesh.
Shoriful Islam and Mahedi Hasan stood out as the key performers in Bangladesh’s bowling effort. Shoriful ‘s three wickets for 75 runs in his ten overs showcased his ability to break through the English batting order. Similarly, Mahedi made an impact by claiming four wickets while conceding 71 runs in his eight overs.

The Bangla Tigers’ faced an uphill battle right from the outset of their chase, as pacer Reece Topley (4/43) wreaked havoc among their top-order batters. Despite Litton Das‘ valiant effort with a commendable knock of 76 runs, the Shakib Al Hasan-led side ultimately succumbed to relentless pressure, eventually getting bundled out for 227 in 48.2 overs . Alongside Topley, fast bowler Chris Woakes made an impact with two crucial wickets.
