ENG vs AUS: Revealed – Why Australian Players Are Wearing Black Armbands Against England

Australia National Cricket Team players were seen wearing black armbands in the 36th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Jos Buttler-led England National Cricket Team at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Saturday, November 4.

The Aussies have got a great record in the ICC Cricket World Cup against England as they have won six of their previous nine encounters, including four wins in a row from 2003 to the group stage in 2019, before a loss in the semi-final of the 2019 World Cup against the Three Lions.

Meanwhile, the Aussies were invited to bat first in the match against England and they weren’t very good while batting first and got bundled out for a low score.

When they came to defend their total, there was a difference seen as the Australian players were seen wearing black armbands, which wasn’t the case in the first innings.

Why Australian Players Are Wearing Black Armbands?

This left the fans wondering the reason behind Australia’s move and an Australian journalist took to X to reveal that the players were wearing black armbands to mark the death of Mitchell Marsh’s grandfather Ross.

Notably, all-rounder Mitchell Marsh is not playing the match against England as he has flown back home due to personal reasons.

Coming back to Australia’s innings, they weren’t able to play the full 50 overs. Pat Cummins & Co. were bundled out for 286 in 49.3 overs, with Marnus Labuschagne being the top performer as he scored a good 71 runs. Also, Cameron Green and Steven Smith chipped in with crucial 40s.

For England, Chris Woakes was the top wicket-taker as he picked up a 4-wicket haul. Adil Rashid and Mark Wood bagged two wickets while David Willey and Liam Livingstone chipped in with one wicket each.
