Here’s why Dwayne Bravo believes West Indies can clinch victory in the T20 World Cup 2024

Dwayne Bravo, a pivotal figure in West Indies‘ previous T20 World Cup victories in 2012 and 2016, expressed unwavering confidence in the current West Indies squad. Despite recent setbacks in the T20 World Cup editions, Bravo believed that the team is well-equipped to spring a surprise and clinch their third title at the upcoming marquee event in June.

Reflecting on past setbacks: Learning from T20 World Cup challenges

While acknowledging the challenges faced in the last two T20 World Cup editions, where West Indies had limited success, Bravo underscored the importance of learning from past experiences. Despite managing only one victory in the T20 World Cup 2021 held in Oman and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and facing a setback by failing to qualify for the Super 12s stage in the subsequent tournament in Australia a year later, Bravo remained undeterred.

Bravo drawn optimism from West Indies’ commendable performances in recent T20I series, where they REGSITERED victories against formidable opponents such as South Africa, India and England. This impressive form over the past 12 months serves as a powerful indicator of the team’s readiness to compete at the highest level in the upcoming T20 World Cup.

“I honestly think this West Indies team is a very good chance (of winning). This current group of players is one of the better squads put together for a long time and I believe they have a very good chance,” Bravo was quoted as saying by the ICC.

“The people in the Caribbean will definitely go out in their numbers and support them and winning a trophy is very important. Speaking from experience, winning the World Cup on two occasions is one of the best feelings for my entire career so hopefully this group can do it,” the 40-year-old added.

Nicholas Pooran: A player to watch out for

Bravo further placed the spotlight on Nicholas Pooran, recognizing him as one of the standout players to watch in global showpiece event. Pooran’s exceptional skills and impactful contributions on the field are expected to play a pivotal role in West Indies’ campaign.

“My current favourite player at the moment is Nicholas Pooran. I believe he has the ability to score big runs and the form he is in and the experience he has gained over the years he is a player that can play spin well, play fast bowling well and is very used to the Caribbean conditions,” Bravo concluded.

The much-anticipated T20 World Cup 2024 is scheduled to commence on 1st June in the West Indies and the United States of America (USA), kicking off with an exciting match between the USA and Canada in Dallas on June 1. The tournament promises thrilling cricketing action and will culminate on June 29.
