Huge drama! Shreyas Iyer fully fit, likely to be dropped amid poor form – Reports

Shreyas Iyer has become the major talking point in Indian cricket in the last few weeks. The batter hasn’t been in great form with the bat in the ongoing Test series against England, which has raised questions about his place in the team.

On Friday (9th February), things got worse for the batter when a media report related to him hogged the headlines. It was learned that the batter complained of back stiffness and groin pain as he experienced discomfort while playing the defense in the second Test in Vizag.

The reports claimed that Shreyas Iyer will be ruled out of the remaining three Tests as he will be heading to NCA for the recovery. It was also learned that his equipments were sent to his home in Mumbai after the Vizag Test whereas the things of the other teammates were exported to Rajkot, where the third game will be played.

However, in a drastic turn of events, it is learned that Shreyas Iyer has no fitness issues. The reports in CricketNext suggested that the batter is all set to be dropped from the team for the last three Tests due to his poor run of form in the longest format of the game.

A BCCI source pointed out Shreyas Iyer’s run out of Ben Stokes in the second Test, stating that his form is one of the biggest concerns for the team. As quoted by CricketNext, he stated:

“Injury issues? What are we saying?” Did you not see his run-out of Ben Stokes? Fact is runs are just not coming and more is expected from the young middle-order batter. That is the biggest concern and the issue at the moment. He faced over 50 deliveries in three of his four innings and the concern is that runs just haven’t come.”

Shreyas Iyer going through a torrid run of form in Test cricket

Shreyas Iyer has been going through a torrid run of form in Test cricket. He came under scrutiny during the South Africa series. It was then expected that he would set the stage on fire in the home series against England. However, this hasn’t been the case.

Shreyas Iyer bagged failures in both the games. He got starts in all the innings he played but failed to cash on those. The batter also faced a lot of backlash for his poor run of form and many experts even raised questions on his place in the team.

With KL Rahul expected to make a comeback in the team after missing the second Test, it won’t be a surprise if Shreyas Iyer gets dropped. The BCCI is expected to announce the squad for the last three games on Friday (9th February). It remains to be seen what will be the future of the batter in the team.

The reports also provided an update about the squad announcement. The BCCI official stated that they are awaiting the fitness updates on Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul as they are the two big players. He explained:

“We are waiting for clearances and updates on Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul and that is what led to the delay in selectors announcing the squad. We are talking about two big players so it’s important to get a clear picture on both of them before going ahead with the team selection for the series.”

The series between India and England stays leveled at 1-1. The third Test between the teams will be played on 15th February in Rajkot. The hosts would be hoping to take the lead and go 2-1 up.
