I Can Never Forget It In My Life: Virat Kohli Revisits His ‘Shot Of The Century’

Virat Kohli has opened up about the famous six he hit off Haris Rauf during the match against Pakistan in T20 World Cup 2022. The former India skipper came up with one of the best knocks of his career to snatch a victory from the jaws of defeat for Team India in front of a jam-packed crowd at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia.

Chasing 160, India made a disastrous start with the bat and were reeling at 31 for 4 when Virat Kohli was joined by Hardik Pandya in the middle. The duo steadied the ship but could not really accelerate much due to the team’s precarious situation.

At one stage, India needed 28 runs from the last 8 balls, and the match looked as good as over for them. Virat Kohli, however, had other ideas. Facing Haris Rauf, who was in stunning form at that time, the India superstar hit the last two balls of the 19th over for two sixes to bring India right back into the match. The six that he hit on the fifth ball of the over was recently dubbed as the shot of the century by the ICC.

ICC says “Virat Kohli’s shot against Haris Rauf” as the shot of the century.

Virat Kohli on his famous six:

In a recent interview, Virat Kohli revisited the famous six. The India batting superstar, who never shies away from showing his spiritual side to the world, also credited higher powers for the iconic six that helped him pull off yet another famous win for his country. He also stated that he would never forget that game as he recalled the magical moment.

“I have seen this a lot of times, but these small things in the middle, these are very special because obviously, you have lived these moments but you haven’t seen it again. Just those little moments are something that I’m very, you know, I feel very nostalgic about, and in a good way. You know what you did, and that moment got captured in some way and someone has seen it,” Virat Kohli told Star Sports.

“You realize this in a moment. If anyone comes up to me and says when I was 10 that at 35, I will be here, if anyone claims that they knew what was going to happen in written and sign it, I would have given them everything. If they knew what my 25-year journey would be, that it happened to have reached here, that is a larger package, it is a compressed version.

“I didn’t know what was going to happen and how it happened. It just happened; I can’t sit here and claim it. That is a larger package and that is injustice to what I felt that night, I can never forget it in my life. Never. And that is the reason people who saw it felt the same thing. It wasn’t like someone said it or claimed it; the moment had purity, and everyone felt it,” he added.

Meanwhile, Kohli is enjoying a stunning campaign in the ongoing World Cup too. In 8 games so far, he has scored 543 runs at an average of 109 with the help of 2 centuries and 4 half-centuries. He is India’s leading run-getter in the competition and would be keen to guide the team to glory.
