ICC World Cup 2023: Mitchell Marsh Ruled Out Indefinitely, Returns Home Due to Personal Reasons

Australia allrounder Mitchell Marsh has reportedly returned home from India ahead of his team’s crucial clash against England in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.

According to a report in cricket.com.au, there is no timeline set for the star allrounder’s return to India. Mitchell Marsh left for his home on Thursday (November 2) for personal reasons and will be out of the World Cup indefinitely.

“A timeline on his return to the squad is to be confirmed,” read a statement from Cricket Australia.

As of now, there is little clarity over his return date and whether Australia would name a replacement for the allrounder. Losing Mitchell Marsh would be a huge blow for Australia who will also be without Glenn Maxwell for the upcoming game against England.

Maxwell has been ruled out of the forthcoming game after suffering concussion in a golf cart accident. According to reports, he slipped and fell off the back of the cart after losing his grip and suffered the head injury which has sidelined for a week.

Australia will be hoping that the recent setbacks do not derail their campaign. The five-time world champions began their campaign with two defeats before registering four wins in a row to get their World Cup campaign back on track.

Both Maxwell and Mitchell Marsh played a key role in the winning run. While Marsh scored a stunning century in the 62-run win over Pakistan, Maxwell blasted a record 40-ball ton against the Netherlands. Australia are currently at the third spot in the points table and a win over bitter rivals England will all but secure their passage to the semifinals.

More to follow….

Australia squad:

Pat Cummins (c), Sean Abbott, Alex Carey, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, David Warner, Adam Zampa
