ENG vs NED took place in the ICC World Cup 2023 today (8th November). The match between the two teams took place at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune and it saw the defending champions finally registering their second win of the tournament.
England opted to bat first and they lost Jonny Bairstow (15) early. But his partner Dawid Malan (87) slammed a magnificent half-century to keep the team in the hunt. The defending champions after that came under tremendous pressure as they lost wickets in clusters and were reeling at 192/6.
But after that, Ben Stokes (108) and Chris Woakes (51) joined hands together and bailed the team out of trouble. The 192-run stand made sure that they ended up with a big total on the board. England ended with 339 runs on the board and the momentum then reflected in their bowling as well.
With the ball, England never allowed the Netherlands to set in. Chris Woakes and David Willey picked three wickets combined with the new ball. After that spinners Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid did the destruction. They bagged 6 wickets among them and bundled out the opposition for just 179 runs to win the game by 160 runs.
For the Netherlands, Wesley Barresi (37), Sybrand Engelbrecht (33), Scott Edwards (38), and Teja Nidamanuru (40*) got starts but they didn’t have enough firepower on the starts.
