The Indian duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma is back to play the T20Is for India. Team India will take on Afghanistan in the second T20I match at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. Virat will be back after his absence from the first match, whereas Rohit will want to forget the failure of Mohali and make a fresh start in Indore.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were seen sweating it out in the nets at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. BCCI uploaded the video for the same on their official ‘X’ handle and the local spectators of Indore were also present at the ground to watch both the Indian stars practice ahead of the match.

Virat Kohli didn’t play the first IND vs AFG T20I match due to personal reasons whereas Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a duck due to a horrific run out courtesy of Shubman Gill. However, India didn’t face any trouble in chasing down 159 runs as Shivam Dube played a match-winning knock of 60 runs from 40 balls.
Shivam Dube hit a total of five fours and 2 sixes in his innings whereas Shubman Gill, Tilak Varma, Jitesh Sharma, and Rinku Singh played important cameos of 25 to 30 runs, which helped India win the match.
On the other hand, Afghanistan also looked decent with the bat and ball in the first match. Openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran started well with the bat and added 50 runs for the first wicket. Mohammad Nabi hit 42 runs from 27 balls and gave much-needed momentum to the team. Afghanistan also performed well with the ball until the 10th over but at last, when Shivam Dube started to get heavy on the opposition team, Afghanistan were not able to come back into the match and later India were able to win the match.
Getting back to Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, this will be the first time when the duo will play the T20I format after 14 months. The duo played their last match T20I match for India against England in the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final. India faced a 10-wicket loss against England and it was yet another setback in the ICC knockouts for India.
However, Afghanistan were the team that helped Virat Kohli make a comeback much-needed comeback in international. When Virat played his last T20I match against Afghanistan, he slammed his 71st international hundred which the fans had been waiting for for the last 3 years.
The return of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will also boost India’s preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. India won the last T20 World Cup in the year 2007 and will want to bring the trophy back home. India have also not won an ICC title in the last 11 years and have lost 9 knockout matches over this period.
India are one of the favorites to win the T20 World Cup 2024 as they begin their campaign on June 5.
