While Team India maintains a straightforward and uncomplicated approach on the field, the same cannot be said for the dressing room. With things going really well on the field in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, the dressing room atmosphere is highly positive at the moment.
The camaraderie among the players has drawn praise from all quarters. The award ceremony for the best fielder after every game has become a huge hit among the fans. After every match, India’s fielding coach T Dilip announces the winner and it is followed by huge cheers, claps, and hugs among the players.
Things were not different on Sunday (October 22) either after India’s crucial game against New Zealand at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamsala. The high-flying hosts beat the Black Caps by 4 wickets to register their fifth win in a row in the competition. India also ended their long wait for a win over New Zealand in ICC competitions. They had not defeated New Zealand since 2003.
Team India’s best fielder announced by T Dilip:
After the win over New Zealand, T Dilip announced the winner of the award ceremony. He began by admitting that the players did commit a few mistakes but the overall performance was good. He then heaped praise on Mohammed Siraj for his impressive display before announcing that Shreyas Iyer was the best fielder of the match.
“Dharamsala did pose us some unique challenges. But I think apart from few errors, I think most of the time we were we stood top on it. Our ground fielding and attacking, the way we came back was outstanding. Very well done guys,” said T Dilip.
“One guy today, he’s been showing his commitment on the ground. And today was another display of his brilliant attitude. I really like it, especially because he is still yet to set the stage on fire in this tournament with his main skill. But he never let that affect his fielding whenever he was on the field.
“One guy was like a fish in the water, natural and swift. Just outstanding. Started with some brilliant catch at square leg and finished off some outstanding stops out there, especially in this field – Shreyas Iyer,” he added before praising Virat Kohli too for his efforts on the field.
It was followed by a special moment. While the players were waiting for the coach to hand Iyer the medal, he had a surprise for everyone. He asked the players to go outside of the dressing room where they saw that a customized medal was hanging on the spider cam and approaching the players.
