IPL 2024: 3 Players That Delhi Capitals Can Use As An Impact Player In The Tournament

Delhi Capitals (DC) had a pretty good IPL auction this time as they were left with the most amount after the conclusion of the auctions. They still have a remaining purse of 9.90 crores and after an auction spend of 19.05 crores, they have built a strong line-up for the IPL 2024. DC made retentions worth 71.05 crores for this season and retained the services of a lot of players who were in the squad last year.

DC purchased the likes of Harry Brook, Shai Hope, Tristan Stubbs, and Jhye Richardson in the auction. However, their most expensive purchase was Kumar Kushagra who was bought for 7.20 crores by the Delhi-based franchise. Delhi Capitals also have a strong bowling line-up with the likes of Anrich Nortje, Ishant Sharma, Axar Patel, and Lungi Ngidi in the squad. Since Rishabh Pant is still not completely fit, David Warner may lead the team again this season.

The Delhi Capitals had a terrible outing in the IPL 2023 as they finished ninth on the points table among ten teams and were the first to be out of the playoffs race in that season. The middle-order was one of the weak links for DC. However, this season they have built a decent squad and hope to reach the playoffs after 2021. They have reached the finals only once in the history of IPL which was back in 2020 when they were defeated by Mumbai Indians.

Delhi Capitals have a decent set of players this time and are looking like a well-balanced side on paper. However, the players who can fulfill the impact player role is something that should be a point of discussion in all the team meetings for DC this season. Let’s look at some of the viable options that DC can consider for impact substitutes in IPL 2024.

IPL 2024: 3 Players That Delhi Capitals Can Use As An Impact Player In The Tournament

1. Yash Dhull:

Yash Dhull is a great option for DC to play as an impact player as he is an excellent batter with almost no bowling skills. He can be made an impact substitute if DC bats second in a match. Yash Dhull has a terrific average of 45.23 in T20 cricket and boasts a strike rate of 127.27. He can bat at multiple positions and can build his innings while rotating the strike.

2. Mukesh Kumar:

Mukesh Kumar is someone who has been in great form with the ball. He took seven wickets in 10 matches in the last season of the IPL. However, he had an expensive average of 46.57 with the ball. Mukesh Kumar can’t contribute anything with the bat which makes him a viable and practical option for DC to use as an impact substitute. Mukesh Kumar can be brought in as an impact player when DC is bowling second in a match.

3. Rishabh Pant:

Rishabh Pant is not completely fit and may not be able to lead the side and he has not resumed his wicket-keeping which means that the only contribution he can make is if he plays as a complete batter in the tournament. He can be used as an impact player in such a case as he is someone who can hit the ball well and can maintain a high strike rate throughout his innings. It can be the only option for DC to play Rishabh Pant if he is not completely fit before the start of the season.
