Defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are reportedly set to release Ben Stokes ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. This decision comes as Stokes has made himself unavailable for the IPL 2024, citing the need to manage his workload after international commitments.
Chennai Super Kings bought Stokes for a whopping sum of Rs 16.25 crore in the IPL 2023 mini-auction. However, he managed to play only a couple of games in the season due to a knee injury. The all-rounder registered scores of eight and seven runs in the last season.
Ben Stokes Has Made Himself Unavailable For IPL 2024 – CSK
The MS Dhoni-led side officially announced that Ben Stokes has opted out of IPL 2024 to manage his workload and fitness. The franchise showed support for his decision amidst a busy schedule, including a 5-Test series in India and the T20 World Cup in June 2024.
“England Test captain, all-rounder Ben Stokes has made himself unavailable for IPL 2024 to manage his workload and fitness. Stokes, 32, became a part of the Super Kings ahead of the successful IPL 2023. He recently participated in the ODI World Cup 2023, which he came out of retirement for. The Chennai Super Kings management is supportive of Ben in his decision to manage his workload with England playing a 5-Test series in India before the IPL and then the T20 World Cup in June 2024,” CSK’s statement read.
Ben Stokes To Undergo Knee Surgery Soon – Reports
The England Test captain is expected to undergo knee surgery soon, ahead of England’s packed schedule for the first half of next year. The England national cricket team will tour India for the red ball series, which will be played between January 25 and March 11.
The franchises are required to submit their lists of retained and released players by November 26 for the mini-auction, set to take place in Dubai on December 19. The Chennai-based franchise will see ₹16.25 crore added to their purse after releasing Ben Stokes.
