ODI World Cup 2023: Dinesh Karthik unveils his predictions for the four semi-finalists

The ODI World Cup 2023 has crossed its midway point, featuring remarkable individual and team performances that will be long remembered. While some teams have emerged as strong contenders to secure a spot in the semi-finals due to their consistent and dominant displays, the official confirmation of the semi-finalists is still pending.

In light of this exciting phase of the tournament, Dinesh Karthik, the accomplished Indian cricketer who has transitioned into a popular broadcaster, shared his insights into the potential semi-finalists for the ODI World Cup 2023. Following Team India’s convincing 100-run victory over defending champions England, Karthik unveiled his predictions during the ICC review show.

Dinesh Karthik confirms his semifinalist picks

Karthik expressed his belief that the current top four teams in the points table, which include India, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia, are well-positioned to secure spots in the semi-finals. He mentioned that the recent victory by Australia over New Zealand has further solidified his prediction.

“I think with this win and with what happened yesterday (Australia defeating New Zealand), we are locked in for the four semi-finalists. It could be a tournament where it has been decided early and it looks more likely it will be the case unless something extraordinary happens, personally don’t think will happen,” said Karthik in ICC review.

Real battle will be for the second, third, and fourth positions

While discussing the pecking order among these top four teams, Karthik indicated that India appear to be the frontrunner to secure the top spot in the points table. He suggested that the real battle will be for the second, third, and fourth positions.

“We have the four semi-finalists, it’s just a matter of who is going to be No.2, No.3 and No.4. I think we pretty much know who No.1 is going to be, so it is going to be a question of who is going to be facing India and who No.2 and No.3 are. It is not being cocky, it’s just the quality of cricket they are playing,” added Karthik.
