Australian skipper Pat Cummins has not given much insight into the incident involving his Australian teammate Glenn Maxwell. He spoke about it in the pre-match conference ahead of the second Test against West Indies starting in Brisbane on January 25.
According to reports in the Sydney Morning Herald Glenn Maxwell was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance on January 19 night after he fell and lost consciousness. Reportedly he was at a night pub attending a concert along with the likes of former Australian pacer Brett Lee and others.
There are also reports that he had consumed alcohol in the pub where he went for the party as well. Meanwhile, the Australian all-rounder was snubbed from the ODI team for the upcoming three-match series against the West Indies, citing workload management.

Cricket Australia who are investigating the incident that it is a mere coincidence and has nothing to do with Maxwell’s ill-timed health concern. Pat Cummins, the Australian skipper while talking to the reporters did not give too many details into the incident.

Cummins only said that Maxwell will only need to own up to the responsibility for his “incident”. He also confirmed that Maxwell was not alongside his Australian teammates at the party and was there for a personal occasion.
“We’re all adults, been part of night outings, you have got to make your own decisions. I suppose in this actual incident, he was obviously not on tour with the Australians, he was over there for a private event, and he was not with the cricket team. So, it is a little bit different. Absolutely, any decision that you make, you have got to own it and be comfortable with it,” Cummins said in a press conference ahead of the second Test against West Indies in Brisbane” said Cummins.
Cricket Australia has also released a statement on the incident surrounding Glenn Maxwell. The board said that they are investigating the matter surrounding the all-rounder and said that the incident has nothing to do with Maxwell not being a part of the time. They also confirmed that Maxwell will return for the T20I series against West Indies.
“Cricket Australia is aware of an incident involving Glenn Maxwell in Adelaide at the weekend and is seeking further information,” a statement said. It is not related to him being replaced in the ODI squad, a decision that was made following the BBL and based on his individual management plan. Maxwell is expected to return for the T20 series. No further comment will be made at this time” read the statement from CA.
The second Test between Australia and West Indies will be played at The Gabba from January 25. Australia won the first Test by 10 wickets and consolidated their position at the top of the WTC points table.
Australia are currently leading the points table with a PCT point of 61.11. India are placed second followed by South Africa and New Zealand. England are placed eighth on the table.
Australia and West Indies will play a three-match ODI series between February 2-6 followed by a T20I series from February 9-13.
