In what has been the latest development as per the reports in Cricbuzz, it is learned that Punjab Kings (PBKS) is likely to release Sam Curran ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The auction is slated to take place on December 19th in Dubai.
Sam Curran at the IPL 2023 auction became the most expensive player in the history of the league when he was acquired by Punjab Kings for 18.5 crore. However, he didn’t do justice to his price tag as he couldn’t get going with both bat as well as the ball, which was one of the main reasons behind the team not doing great.
Sam Curran took 10 wickets at an economy of over 10 and scored just 276 runs with the bat. With the kind of money PBKS spent on him, he didn’t have the kind of impact they would’ve wanted. Releasing him would free a lot of purse for the team and they can pick other players to fill their squad for the next edition.
The reports in Cricbuzz also suggested that Sunrisers Hyderabad could also release Harry Brook ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. The England batter was acquired by the franchise for INR 13.25 crore. However, he also didn’t have the kind of impact the franchise would’ve wanted from him.
Harry Brook failed drastically throughout the tournament and was trolled a lot. Even though he slammed one century in the tournament, he couldn’t set the stage on fire. The batter scored just 190 runs, with an average of 21.11. The management would be hoping to acquire some other explosive batter in his place.
KKR likely to release Lockie Ferguson, Shardul Thakur, and Tim Southee
Apart from the news of Sam Curran and Harry Brook getting released by their respective teams, the reports also suggested that Kolkata Knight Riders are also keen to release a host of players. The likes of Lockie Ferguson, Shardul Thakur, and Tim Southee are expected to be released by the team.
Recently, other reports suggested that KKR might release Andre Russell. However, Cricbuzz has suggested that the franchise isn’t keen to let him go. The reports also added that some big trade might happen involving the captain of one franchise.
