“Perform When It Matters”: David Warner Dismisses Mohammad Kaif’s “India Best On Paper” Remark

Veteran Australian opening batter David Warner criticized Mohammad Kaif’s statement suggesting that the best team didn’t win the ICC World Cup 2023. David Warner stated that the team needs to perform on the final day, regardless of the team’s strong lineup on paper.

The Pat Cummins-led team defeated the home team, India, by six wickets in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19. The hosts remained unbeaten in the league stage and won comfortably in the semi-finals, while Australia lost two matches.

The Men in Blue clinched victory against Australia in their tournament opener in Chennai. The Indian team restricted the opposition to just 199 runs before successfully chasing down the target. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul played crucial roles despite losing early wickets.

You Need To Perform When It Matters – David Warner

David Warner took to his X (formerly known as Twitter) to express his disagreement, emphasizing the importance of the performance in the final match. Warner underlined the significance of delivering when it matters, highlighting the unpredictability of sports.

“I like MK, issue is it does not matter what’s on paper. At the end of the day you need to perform when it matters. That’s why they call it a final. That’s the day that counts and it can go either way, that’s sports. 2027 here we come,” Warner tweeted.

I Am Not Ready To Accept That The Best Team Won – Mohammad Kaif

Mohammad Kaif congratulated Australia on their World Cup victory but expressed his disagreement with the notion that the best team won. Kaif stated that India has been consistently the best, highlighting that it was a bad day for them.

“Congratulations to Australia but I am not ready to accept that the best team won the World Cup. This Indian team has been the best side. They would win so many times playing against the same Australian team, even though they lost today. It was one of those bad day, this happens sometimes,” Mohammad Kaif said as quoted on Star Sports after the final.
