Sri Lanka Playing 11 vs Australia– ICC World Cup 2023, Match 14. Sri Lanka takes on Australia in match 14 of the ICC World Cup 2023 in Lucknow. The match starts from 2 pm with the Lankans still looking for their first win of the campaign. The Lankans played the qualifiers to make the main round.

Sri Lanka have lost against South Africa and Pakistan to start their campaign. The side notched up consistent wins in the ICC World Cup qualifiers but have lost their way in the first two games.

Their bowling attack has been dented by the absence of Wanindu Hasaranga and Dusmantha Chameera. Hasaranga was the highest wicket-taker in the qualifiers and his absence was certainly a setback for Sri Lanka.

From the batting front, Kusal Mendis has been leading the charge for Sri Lanka with 79 in the first game and a century in the second. He found support from Sadeera Samarawickrama in the last game against Pakistan. The duo needs to continue scoring for the Islanders to stay in the hunt.

Charith Asalanka can bat at five. He scored just 1 off 3 balls against Pakistan. Aslanka plays spin well and needs to capitalize on the weak Australian spin attack. He is also useful with his right-arm off-spin.

De Silva can bat at seven. He is a handy batter lower down the order and a good off-spinner who takes wickets in the middle overs. He scored 25 off 36 balls against Pakistan. He is the sixth bowling option in the side. He is six shy of 50 ODI wickets.

Dunith Wellalage

Wellalage can bat at eight. He showed signs of being a good all-rounder in the Asia Cup and needs to take his game a level higher in the World Cup. He took 10 wickets in the Asia Cup. However, he went wicketless against Pakistan.

Maheesh Theekshana

Maheesh Theekshana will lead the spin attack in the absence of Wanindu Hasaranga. He took 8 wickets in the Asia Cup and will get a lot of assistance from the Kotla wicket. He is five shy of 50 ODI wickets. He took 1 for 59 against Pakistan.

Matheesha Pathirana

Pathirana will be one of the two pacers in the playing XI. He ended the Asia Cup with the most wickets. With his unorthodox action, he will be one of the bowlers to watch out for in the tournament. However, he has been very expensive in the first two games. He went for 90 against Pakistan in his spell.

Madhushanka will conclude Lanka’s likely XI. He has been preferred over Kasun Rajitha and Lahiru Kumara in the first two games. He has picked up 14 wickets from 8 games including 2/60 in the last game.
