The UAE vs AFG second T20I will be played in Sharjah on December 31, Sunday. This is a must-win game for the United Arab Emirates if they want to keep the series alive. Afghanistan won the first T20I by 72 runs. The match starts at 7.30 pm IST which is 6 pm local time.
The Afghans posted a mammoth 203/3 on the back of Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s maiden T20I ton. he scored 100 off just 52 balls to power Afghanistan to that huge score. He added a 137-run stand with his skipper Ibrahim Zadran (59 off 43). Azmatullah Omarzai (19 off 8) played an important came in the end.
UAE got nowhere with the change finishing with just 131 /4 in their 20 overs. They lost their skipper Muhammad Waseem (4) early in the chase and since then it was a single-handed effort from Vriitya Aravind who scored 70 off 64 deliveries. Cameos from Basil Hamid (18) and Tanish Suri (20) came a bit too late. The UAE lost just two wickets but did not have any momentum throughout the chase.
For Afghanistan, Fazalhaq Farooqi took two wickets, Naveen-Ul-Haq took two and Qais Ahmad took one. Noor Ahmad and Mohammad Nabi were the other two bowlers. The likes of Rashid Khan, and Hasmatullah Shahidi have been rested from this series. Both are expected to be back for the T20I series against India. Meanwhile, Mujeeb Ur Rahman is currently playing in the BBL for Melbourne Renegades.
He along with Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naveen ul-Haq denied signing the central contracts with the national cricket team after which the ACB sanctioned their NOCs. No more NOCs will be given to any of the national players with the current ones to be revoked as per reports.

This lands IPL franchises like LSG, SRH, and KKR in trouble ahead of IPL 2024. While Lucknow and Hyderabad retained Farooqi and Naveen respectively, KKR bought Mujeeb for his base price of 2 crores.
Afghanistan are slated to play a three-match T20I series against India next year in January and hence this UAE vs AFG series serves up as the perfect dress rehearsal for the Asian side.
UAE, on the other hand, did not have a good year in international cricket in 2023. They did not qualify for the T20 World Cup last year. At the start of the year, they lost to Afghanistan2-1. They played a series against New Zealand and lost that 2-1 as well. They won the Tri-Nation series in Nepal but failed to qualify for the T20 World Cup as they had a bad outing in the tournament.
