Australian opener David Warner made a stylish entry into the Big Bash League (BBL) 2023-24. David Warner arrived at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in a helicopter just hours before the start of the Sydney Thunder’s match against the Sixers on January 12.
The 37-year-old attended his brother’s wedding in Hunter Valley earlier on Friday. However, the opener demonstrated his commitment to play for the Sydney Thunder. He left the wedding early in the afternoon and took a helicopter ride to reach the match venue.

The veteran opener initially planned to land at Allianz Stadium. However, Warner’s landing plans shifted to the SCG, where preparations were swiftly made. He successfully arrived in time for the highly anticipated match against Sydney Thunder’s arch-rivals.
After retiring from Tests and ODIs, Warner is poised to focus on T20 cricket in the latter part of his cricketing career. The opening batter will participate in the second season of the International League T20 (ILT20), scheduled to commence on January 19.
David Warner is expected to opt out of the T20I series during the West Indies tour of Australia. Instead, he will join the Dubai Capitals in the second season of the ILT20. The southpaw is set to rejoin the team for the T20I series against New Zealand in away conditions.
David Warner Is a Bit Hollywood – Sean Abbott
Sydney Sixers pacer Sean Abbott, who shares a close bond with David Warner, compared Warner’s helicopter entrance to something out of Hollywood. He acknowledged Warner as one of the best players globally and anticipated a competitive match.
“He is a bit Hollywood, isn’t he, that’s very Davey. I got the Lime bike in today and I’ll be doing the same tomorrow night and riding out the gate as Davey lands,” Sean Abbott told reporters.
“I’m glad they are making it happen because think everyone in the country who is a fan of cricket wants to see David Warner in the BBL and I’m really looking forward to coming up against him. One of the best players in the world and has been for a long time,” he added.
The Sydney Sixers, currently third in the table with four wins and two losses, could significantly enhance their playoff prospects. The Sixers have accumulated 10 points from eight games. On the other hand, the Thunder are second to last in the table with three points. The Thunder managed just one win and suffered five losses out of seven games so far.
