The initial group of Indian cricketers, including captain Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja, gathered in Mumbai on Saturday to head to the USA for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, which kicks off next month. The coaching staff, led by head coach Rahul Dravid, was also present as the team set out on their mission to secure their second T20 World Cup title. Not to mention, the Men in Blue won the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 under the leadership of MS Dhoni.
Travel details and key absentees
Reports previously indicated that both Rohit and Virat Kohli would be part of the first contingent traveling for the T20 World Cup. The team planned to depart from Mumbai to Dubai at 10 PM, then continue on to New York. However, Kohli was not seen with the first group, allegedly due to some outstanding paperwork, and is expected to travel by May 30.
Rishabh Pant, Kuldeep Yadav, and others seen
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted photos on their official X (formerly Twitter) account, featuring the Indian cricket stars in the first group. Besides Rohit and Jadeja, other players like Rishabh Pant, Shivam Dube, Suryakumar Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh were seen departing for the USA.
The wait is over.

Second group to depart soon
Avesh Khan, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Sanju Samson are scheduled to travel with the second group of Indian cricketers. Notably, the Indian Premier League (IPL) final between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), set for May 26, will not feature any players from the current 15-man India squad selected for the World Cup.
Hardik Pandya’s separate route
Hardik Pandya, the vice-captain for the T20 World Cup, flew to London after his team, Mumbai Indians (MI), failed to reach the playoffs. Hardik has been training in London for a few days and might join the national team directly from there.
