Later, in an emotional and heartwarming moment, India captain Rohit Sharma went to the president’s box at the Wankhede Stadium to meet his family and friends. His mother, Purnima, became emotional upon seeing her son, who had led the team to a historic T20 World Cup victory. Rohit’s mother skips doctor’s appointment to attend the event
In a heartfelt revelation, Purnima mentioned in an interview with the Indian Express that she had missed a doctor’s appointment to attend the Wankhede ceremony. She also revealed that Rohit had planned to retire from the T20I format before heading to the global event in the West Indies and USA.
“I have never thought I would see this day. Before going to the World Cup, he had come to meet us and said that he wanted to quit T20Is after this. I just said try to win. I was not feeling well today and had a doctor’s appointment, but I still came as I wanted to see this day,” she said.
Brother Vishal Sharma showers praise on Rohit
Rohit’s brother, Vishal, was also present at the Wankhede Stadium, accompanied by former MCA secretary PV Shetty and residents of Sportsline Society, where Rohit grew up. Vishal expressed his pride and joy over Rohit’s achievement, reminiscing about their shared childhood and how special it was to witness Rohit’s success. “We came here as sir (PV Shetty) said we all should go. He took all of us. I was young when I saw Rohit winning the 2007 (ICC World T20) title but this one is special. The huge cheer he got shows how much Mumbai loves him,” Rohit’s brother Vishal said.
