Prithvi Shaw denies making a comeback in the Indian team

Prithvi Shaw returned to competitive cricket after being sidelined for almost five months due to an ankle injury he suffered in the County One-Day Cup. He is playing in the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai and in his second game of the season against Chattisgarh, Prithvi Shaw displayed his batting prowess smashing a quickfire century where he scored 159 off 185 balls. He completed his century before the end of the first session on the first day, reminding everyone of his attacking strokeplay.

Prithvi Shaw debuted his Team India in 2018 when West Indies toured India. Shaw was asked to open the innings on his Test debut and he impressed everyone by scoring a century on his India debut but a major dip in his form followed which eventually led to him being sidelined from all three formats. His last appearance for India came against Sri Lanka in 2021 when he was selected for the second team while the first team was in England for the WTC finals and series against England.

Recently in an interview with The Indian Express, Prithvi Shaw was asked about his India comeback. He has no expectations about his India return and is currently focusing on his Ranji Trophy campaign with Mumbai. He has been sidelined from the Indian team for the past three years and he had a terrible few seasons in the IPL for Delhi Capitals.

“I’m not thinking too far off and want to stay in the present. There is no expectation, I’m happy I’m back playing cricket. I have just come back after injury and just want to give my best. My aim is to win the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai and I’m trying to achieve that by contributing as much as I can going ahead,” said Prithvi Shaw to The Indian Express.

Prithvi Shaw Talks About His Comeback To Cricket

Prithvi Shaw experienced some unfamiliarity after returning to the game after a good five months and mentioned that when he got on the crease, he felt a bit uneasy but then gradually regained his confidence as he carried on with his innings. He said that he was not nervous but was feeling a bit strange but he was keeping himself motivated

“I wanted to do well but somewhere I wondered whether I would be able to bat in my style or not. Kaise kheloonga (how will I play), when I would make a comeback and whether it will be on a good note or not. These were the thoughts that were going around. But after I stayed for a few hours, things became normal. I wasn’t nervous but the feeling was a bit ajeeb (strange) when I resumed my batting. However, I did a match simulation and was motivating myself that everything would be fine. My body language was fine,” he explained.

Prithvi Shaw will also be seen in action for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2024 and he would want to end his poor run of form in the IPL. He has not performed well in the last two seasons and the IPL 2023 was one of the worst seasons for Shaw as a batter. He has a lot of potential and god-gifted timing but needs to perform and work on his consistency to be reconsidered for the Indian Team.
