In the 14th match of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, Australia secured a convincing victory over Sri Lanka at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Monday. Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat, setting a target of 210 runs for the Australians to chase.

Zampa shines to restrict Sri Lanka at a below-par total

Sri Lanka’s batting effort was anchored by Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera, who contributed significantly to their team’s total. Nissanka top-scored with a solid 61 runs off 67 balls, while Perera played a commanding innings of 78 runs off 82 deliveries.

However, the rest of the Sri Lankan batting lineup struggled to make a significant impact, resulting in their innings coming to a close at 209 runs.

Australia’s bowling unit displayed an impressive performance, with Adam Zampa being the standout bowler. He claimed four wickets for 47 runs in his eight overs, contributing significantly to the Australian effort.

Marsh, Inglis help Australia secure first win

Australia’s response was swift and composed, as they reached the target with 5 wickets in hand. Mitchell Marsh performed well for Australia, notching 52 runs off 51 balls, ably supported by Josh Inglis (58 runs off 59 balls) and Glenn Maxwell (31 runs off 21 balls).

Sri Lanka’s Dilshan Madushanka was the pick of the bowlers for the island nation, taking three wickets for 38 runs in his nine overs. However, Australia maintained their composure and reached the target in 35.2 overs, securing a five-wicket victory.
