World Cup 2023: New Zealand announces Kane Williamson’s cover for the remaining tournament

In a significant development for the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, New Zealand have announced the cover for their injured skipper Kane Williamson. The announcement comes as Williamson sustained an injury during his comeback game against Bangladesh on Friday.

Williamson retired hurt in the 39th over of the second innings after taking a blow on his left-hand while completing a run. He was forced to leave the field for 78 after facing 107 deliveries.

“An X-ray has confirmed an undisplaced fracture to Kane Williamson’s left thumb. He will remain in the
World Cup squad with the aim of being available for the back end of pool play next month,”
the Blackcaps confirmed in their official statement on Saturday, October 14.

Talented batter Tom Blundell has been added to New Zealand’s squad as a cover of Williamson for the remainder of the ODI World Cup 2023. He will be joining his teammates ahead of the Blackcaps’ next fixture.
