World Cup 2023: Twitter erupts as South Africa’s Quinton de Kock hammers his second consecutive century during AUS vs SA match

In the ODI World Cup 2023‘s league stage match against Australia at Lucknow’s Ekana Cricket Stadium, South Africa opener Quinton de Kock delivered another stellar performance as he scored his second successive century of the tournament.

Australia’s squad adjustments and South Africa’s spin enhancement:

The game witnessed Australia’s strategic changes as they won the toss and elected to field first on a relatively untested pitch against the South African squad in the Cricket World Cup. Australia made two notable substitutions to their lineup, with wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey making way for Josh Inglis, and all-rounder Marcus Stoinis returning after recovering from a hamstring injury, replacing the struggling Cameron Green. On the other hand, South Africa opted to bolster their spin bowling by introducing left-arm spinner Tabraiz Shamsi in place of fast bowler Gerald Coetzee.

Quinton de Kock’s consecutive centuries

Partnering with captain Temba Bavuma, De Kock’s incredible innings began with a 100-run plus partnership before Bavuma departed after contributing 35 runs off 55 balls. De Kock’s innings of 90 balls featured 8 boundaries and 5 mighty sixes, reaffirming his reputation as a dominating force in world cricket. This remarkable feat marked his second consecutive century in the tournament, taking him just 90 balls to reach triple figures. His earlier ton century came in the previous game against Sri Lanka, achieved in 84 balls. He eventually departed after scoring 109 runs in 106 balls.

Joining the elite ODI centuries club

De Kock’s 19th ODI century now places him among cricket’s elite. He shares this distinction with other cricket legends such as Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, former West Indies skipper Brian Lara, and Sri Lankan great Mahela Jayawardene. De Kock’s remarkable consistency and outstanding performances have solidified his position as one of the sport’s premier talents.
