BAN vs SL: Ian Bishop Makes Huge Revelation On Angelo Mathews’ Dismissal, Says ‘Umpires Approached Shakib Al Hasan Twice…’

Ian Bishop has made a shocking revelation about the timed out dismissal of the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team all-rounder Angelo Mathews in the 38th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Shakib Al Hasan-led Bangladesh National Cricket Team at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Monday, November 6.

A controversial incident happened during the BAN vs SL clash, which ignited the ‘spirit of cricket’ debate. The veteran all-rounder Angelo Mathews came to bat after the dismissal of Sadeera Samarawickrama and he was declared timed out by the on-field umpires.

The all-rounder had faced some issues with his helmet after coming out in the middle and he soon called a substitute fielder with a new helmet. The umpires weren’t impressed with the time being wasted and they approached Angelo Mathews and had a chat with him.

That was when Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan decided to appeal for timed out. After a lengthy discussion, the umpires declared the all-rounder out and he was told to go back to the pavilion.

However, Angelo Mathews looked frustrated and he told the umpires as well as Shakib Al Hasan that there were some issues with his helmet. However, the Bangladesh captain didn’t withdraw his appeal. The all-rounder was out without facing any delivery in the match and this was the first instance of a batsman getting timed out in the history of international cricket.

Shakib Al Hasan Was Approached By Umpires Twice To Withdraw His Timed Out Appeal – Ian Bishop on Angelo Mathews’ Dismissal

While doing commentary, Ian Bishop made a shocking revelation about the things that happened in the middle. He revealed that the Bangladesh skipper was approached twice by the on-field umpires and they asked him whether he wanted to withdraw his appeal.

Ian Bishop added that the Bangladesh National Cricket Team didn’t listen to umpires and refused to withdraw his appeal.

“The umpires approached Shakib twice to see if he wanted to withdraw the appeal, and he said no. Twice,” said Ian Bishop on air.

According to the rules in place in the ongoing edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup, a batsman needs to arrive in the crease within 2 minutes after the dismissal of a batter and they need to be ready to face the bowler. If the batter doesn’t meet the requirements, he should be declared out by the umpires.

The Timed Out rules state: “40.1.1 After the fall of a wicket or the retirement of a batter, the incoming batter must, unless Time has been called, be ready to receive the ball, or for the other batter to be ready to receive the next ball within 2 minutes of the dismissal or retirement. If this requirement is not met, the incoming batter will be out, Timed out.”
