IND Vs PAK: Shane Watson Predicts Babar Azam’s Return To Form In High-Voltage India Vs Pakistan Clash

Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, has faced a challenging start to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. With scores of 5 and 10 in matches against the Netherlands and Sri Lanka, Babar Azam has struggled to make an impact with the bat. All eyes are now on him as Pakistan prepares to face arch-rivals India in their upcoming group-stage clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Babar Azam will be eager to rise to the occasion in this high-stakes encounter.

Former Australian cricketer Shane Watson and Indian wicketkeeper Deep Dasgupta recently discussed Babar Azam’s form and expressed their belief that he could stage a comeback in the match against India on October 14. Watson referred to Babar Azam as a top-notch player and suggested that, despite his recent dip in performance, he did not appear to be out of touch.

In the game against Sri Lanka on October 10, Babar Azam, batting at 10, faced a challenging situation in the pursuit of a formidable target of 345 runs. He edged a ball down the leg side, which further added to his struggles.

“Look, he’s a class player. Yes, he’s had a bit of a dry spell, Uh, five innings of less than 30 runs. So it’s the first time he’s done that since 2019. You know that things aren’t going that well for you when that happens. So, um, Babar Azam, even the first couple of balls that he faced, you can see he’s getting in really good positions. He’s a world-class batter. He’s gonna absolutely ready to go against India. Sometimes you’re just not so much out of touch because he’s not even more badly you just out of runs,” Watson remarked during a conversation on Star Sports after the match.

Deep Dasgupta Also Shows Confidence In Babar Azam’s Abilities

Deep Dasgupta shared a similar perspective and suggested that Pakistan’s impressive victory against Sri Lanka, where they achieved a record World Cup chase, might boost Babar Azam’s confidence and form.

“A game like this could actually unleash Babar Azam as a batsman in the India vs. Pakistan match. He now has more confidence in the other batters. He has Abdullah Shafique, Rizwan, Saud Shakeel, Iftikhar. Everyone is contributing. Before this game, it appeared as if the burden was solely on Babar or perhaps Rizwan. But now, I believe he will approach the next game with a greater sense of freedom and bat in his own style, without the weight of the world on his shoulders,” Dasgupta remarked on Star Sports.

India and Pakistan will lock horns against each other on 14th October at the Narendra Modi International Stadium in Ahmedabad. This will be the 8th time that these two nations will compete against each other in the ODI World Cup. India has won the previous seven encounters against Pakistan in World Cup matches and they will be looking for another win but if Babar Azam regains his form in that match then the result might be something different.
