Fans on X (formerly known as Twitter) were divided over Pakistan National Cricket Team wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan’s century against Sri Lanka National Cricket Team in the ICC World Cup 2023.
Pakistan National Cricket Team faced off Sri Lanka National Cricket Team in the eighth match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad on Tuesday, October 10.
Chasing a mammoth 345-run target in the match, Pakistan were off to a poor start as Imam-ul-Haq and Babar Azam got out for low scores. However, Mohammad Rizwan showed great temperament and built a terrific 176-run partnership with Abdullah Shafique to push the Lankan Team on the back foot.
Mohammad Rizwan’s stay in the middle was not an easy one as he suffered cramps and was finding it really hard to bat. He fell several times on the ground while playing his shots and was finding it difficult to complete the runs on time.
Despite the cramps, Rizwan was batting brilliantly and after losing Abdullah Shafique he built a great partnership with Saud Shakeel. The duo added 95 runs in 68 balls, to take Pakistan closer to the win.
Saud Shakeel also got out without finishing the run-chase, but Mohammad Rizwan stood strong on one end and guided Pakistan to a historic 6-wicket victory. He smashed 131 runs off 121 balls, with 8 fours and 3 sixes, to bag the Player of the Match award.
However, fans on Twitter were divided over Mohammad Rizwan’s century. Some praised him for fighting like a warrior despite suffering cramps and others called him an actor.
After the match, commentators asked Rizwan about his cramps and he hilariously responded by saying that he actually faced cramps sometimes but other times he was just acting.
