South Africa National Cricket Team have been handed a major blow as their star 27-year-old pacer Lungi Ngidi has been ruled out of the fixture against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team.
The Proteas and the Bangla Tigers are taking on each other in the 23rd match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, October 24.
The game is an important one for both teams as Proteas will be looking forward to continuing their winning momentum and Bangladesh, on the other hand, will be looking forward to ending their three-match losing streak.
Talking about South Africa, they have been in roaring form, with most of their batters firing. The Proteas have posted the two highest totals in this World Cup and have the two fastest centuries as well.
Lungi Ngidi has a niggle, reveals Aiden Markram
South Africa are without their skipper Temba Bavuma and pacer Lungi Ngidi in the match against Bangladesh. Bavuma, who also missed the last game for his side, hasn’t fully recovered and Ngidi on the other hand has picked up a knee niggle.
Lizaad Williams has been included in the playing XI as a replacement for Lungi Ngidi. Speaking at the toss, stand-in skipper Aiden Markram said:
“We will bat first. Trying to approach in a similar way to the English game. It’s really hot. It took a toll on everyone, it’s advantage fielding in the evening. It proves that anyone can beat anyone.
“We took lesson from that Netherlands game, it’s a new day today. We need to try and repeat the same thing. Ngidi has a niggle, he misses out, Lizaad comes in.”
The absence of Lungi Ngidi is indeed a massive blow for the side as he has been in terrific form, having registered the bowling figures of 1/49, 2/26, 2/57, and 1/18 in four matches in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
