Watch: Kevin Sinclair takes a stunner at 4th slip to dismiss Marnus Labuschagne on Day 2

Kevin Sinclair, the West Indies all-rounder is having a memorable time on his Test debut at the Gabba. After scoring 50 with the bat and taking West Indies to 311, he played his part in the field taking a crucial catch.

Australia lost the wicket of Steve Smith to Kemar Roach in the very first over of their innings. Sinclair then took a stunner at fourth slip to dismiss Marnus Labuschagne for just three off three balls.

Joseph bowled a delivery on the good length that bounced a little more than Marnus anticipated. He was squared up when he tried to play the ball. The ball took the edge of his bat and Sinclair standing at fourth slip flew to his right and completed the catch. It was a spectacular grab and perhaps the best catch of this series.

Marnus the batter had a look of disbelief on his face as he was dismissed. That was the second wicket to fall in the very second over. Australia lost two more as Kermar Roach struck twice to leave the hosts rattling at 24/5 in just five overs before breaking for tea. Australia still trails by 287 runs to West Indies’ first-innings score of 311.

Earlier in the game, West Indies won the toss and opted to bat first. They scored 266/8 in 89.4 overs on day 1 with contributions from Kavem Hodge (71) and Joshua Da Silva (79). Kevin Sinclair’s 50 off 98 balls coupled with Alzarri Joseph’s cameo helped West Indies score above 300 in their first innings.

The total is now looking a daunting one for Australia who have lost nearly half their side with almost nothing on the board. Having rocked the hosts early, West Indies now have a good opportunity to gain a big lead and build on that big lead by batting well in the second innings.

Australian bowlers dismantled the West Indies batting lineup but the lower-order stepped up and added crucial runs in the first innings of the Pink-Ball Test at The Gabba. Australia have a good record at the Gabba and the Windies are doing their best to put their foot forward in the Test match.

Australia have started the Test series as the number one team on the WTC points table. India are ranked second followed by South Africa, New Zealand, and Bangladesh as the third, fourth, and fifth teams on the table respectively. Pakistan are placed sixth, West Indies seventh, England eighth, and Sri Lanka last on the points table as of now.

Meanwhile, Kemar Roach with his scalps on day 2 has now reached 270 wickets in Test cricket in 81 matches. He spoke about mentoring the new crop of pacers for the West Indies side in the future.

“I had mentors when I started. Jerome Taylor, Daren Powell, Fidel Edwards. Some guys were around to help me when I started my career. I took knowledge and learned from it. So obviously for me now, it’s all about passing on the mantle to the youngsters,” said Roach.
